Wild World of Wednesday - January 28, 2009

Tennis: Serena Williams has advanced to the semi-finals at the Australian Open. The temperature during her match was about 104F. Andy Roddick has advanced in the men’s to unseat the reigning champion. Novak Djokovic succumbed to the extreme heat and allowed Roddick to move on.

Another sign of impending doom
: The poll question on ESPN’s website asks, “What will be the outcome of the pregame coin toss before Super Bowl XLIII?” Not surprisingly – the poll sits at a 50/50 split. You think?

Tiger watch: The golf world is abuzz with speculation of the return of Tiger Woods. Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia has narrowed the gap at number 2 in the world and is closing in on Tiger…for now…

Today in Sports History

1960 – The NFL announces Dallas Cowboys (1960) and Minnesota Vikings (1961) franchises

1995 – In the 83rd Australian Men’s Tennis final Andre Agassi defeats Pete Sampras (46 61 76 64)

Great video! Ha!

I can't imagine playing tennis in 104-degree heat. I would not do so well.

That is a pretty weak poll question for ESPN. "Are you usually hungover the Monday after the Super Bowl?" would've been a better question.

Yes - your poll question is equal to ESPNs!

The won thing I love about watching the Williams sisters play if either drops the first set, there is still a good chance of a third set being played. They're talking Roddick up but I still say Roger in 4, especially since Roger had that close call. I think this will be Bud Collins last year at the Open. Half the stuff he says makes no sense, but I said that last year.

The womans final was like 5 minutes. I turned my head for like 2 seconds and Serena is up 3 love. I may stay up to watch the mens finals

Yeah - the headlines say she "steamrolled" the opponent!
