Do You Care What You Wear?
Yesterday I happened to catch a conversation about style at the gym. One person remarked that their spouse was embarrassed with their appearance as they were leaving for the gym. They even had a picture to illustrate and it showed a navy blue top tucked in to black bottoms.
Ouch.
Now, I never really talk much about fashion but I am one of those that is a big fan of fashion, especially matching. This applies no matter if I golf, surf, hike, or engage in another activity. Honestly, I'm not terribly concerned about the opinion of others, I'm just a bit obsessive and like everything to be neat. Of course, I get accused of being obnoxious here and there since I'm not afraid to have a skull here and there. When I'm not engaged in sports or fitness activities I am the queen of vintage clothing.
How about you? Are you one of those, "I'm just going to the gym so I'll throw on a potato sack if I want" or are you more, "I like to look my best no matter where I go"?
Does it matter?

I believe I can count on two-three fingers the number of times I have left the house without some thought of how I looked. And, I am the dullest dresser on the planet.
Khakis (long or short), blue button-down shirts or polo, tassel loafers or the newest adidas (sans socks)...
I care how I look, but I don't care what you care about my dress...
Well put sir!
Winter uniform = cords and Under Armour shirt
Summer uniform = golf shorts/skort and matching top and matching MyJoys
Super hot days = golf dress with matching MyJoys
Off course = same thing as on course
Gym = don't go, so doesn't matter, happier at my indoor range and with weights at home
You've got it down Heather! I knew you were stylish already!
I feel that the gym is one of the few places that it doesn't matter if you match or not. I go there to work-out, not to be overly concerned about what I'm wearing, or what people think about what I'm wearing. If it doesn't function in the gym, who cares how it looks?
As for dressing for anything else (aside from going to a quick jaunt to the grocery store), I usually like to match. I really have no fashion sense so what I think matches, others may not... but I'm trying!
Well Becky, all of your surf gear matches rather well. That would include your vehicle!
And yeah, I don't really care what people think about what I'm wearing. For example - you saw my old wetsuit!
I admit that I like to work out at the gym in matching cute gym outfits. (My running shoes, however may not match my gym outfit because the comfort and health of my feet and knees depends on a certain fit of shoe, not color).
I used to be fat, so cute gym outfits are my reward. :)
Like Heather, I also wear my golf wear off course on the weekend. And sometimes to work if I am planning on heading to range after...
I've a sneaker selection that matches whatever I wear but I don't actually go to a gym since I have all of the equipment at home.
I've always been a "coordinator" but I am not matchy-matchy, just put together.
I forgot to add that when it is really cold I may throw on layers of non-matching stuff to get out to play golf. It is usually all hidden under a windshirt or jacket, anyway.
And I also agreed with the non-matching gym goer that it really doesn't matter if you don't match at the gym. The getting there and doing it is what matters.
i am just a wee little bit vain, sometimes.
A little vanity never hurt anyone...I know I'm guilty
If I wear clothes that look good, I tend to have a better workout because I feel better about myself - that goes for if no one is around or if I'm in a gym full of people. But I don't have much of a fashion sense at all, and I don't like to spend a lot of money on clothes. So I'm somewhere in the middle.
Oh, and you should see the awful combinations I wear sometimes when I have to put on layers and go outside. But, only the top layer counts, right?
Yeah - layers will certainly bring out some interesting combos. When I was in NY last January I threw on EVERYTHING including a scarf over my face. Brrr......
