Yesterday I happened to catch a conversation about style at the gym. One person remarked that their spouse was embarrassed with their appearance as they were leaving for the gym. They even had a picture to illustrate and it showed a navy blue top tucked in to black bottoms.
Ouch.
Now, I never really talk much about fashion but I am one of those that is a big fan of fashion, especially matching. This applies no matter if I golf, surf, hike, or engage in another activity. Honestly, I'm not terribly concerned about the opinion of others, I'm just a bit obsessive and like everything to be neat. Of course, I get accused of being obnoxious here and there since I'm not afraid to have a skull here and there. When I'm not engaged in sports or fitness activities I am the queen of vintage clothing.
How about you? Are you one of those, "I'm just going to the gym so I'll throw on a potato sack if I want" or are you more, "I like to look my best no matter where I go"?
Does it matter?

Khakis (long or short), blue button-down shirts or polo, tassel loafers or the newest adidas (sans socks)...
I care how I look, but I don't care what you care about my dress...
Summer uniform = golf shorts/skort and matching top and matching MyJoys
Super hot days = golf dress with matching MyJoys
Off course = same thing as on course
Gym = don't go, so doesn't matter, happier at my indoor range and with weights at home
As for dressing for anything else (aside from going to a quick jaunt to the grocery store), I usually like to match. I really have no fashion sense so what I think matches, others may not... but I'm trying!
And yeah, I don't really care what people think about what I'm wearing. For example - you saw my old wetsuit!
I used to be fat, so cute gym outfits are my reward. :)
Like Heather, I also wear my golf wear off course on the weekend. And sometimes to work if I am planning on heading to range after...
I've always been a "coordinator" but I am not matchy-matchy, just put together.
And I also agreed with the non-matching gym goer that it really doesn't matter if you don't match at the gym. The getting there and doing it is what matters.
i am just a wee little bit vain, sometimes.
