Sunday Sports Wrap - March 1, 2009

Yes, it is March already. Where is this new year going?

Golf: The Accenture Match Play Championship finishes up today between Geoff Ogilvy and Paul Casey. The Golf Channel still can't stop talking about Tiger Woods though and will have in-depth analysis on every aspect of his game. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Tiger Woods but I just find it really silly how much attention to every single public detail about him is given. "Tiger Woods has just brushed his teeth", or "Tiger decides on the brown pants today", seem like they aren't far away as breaking news.

MLB: Yes, Spring Training games are played in various spots around the country today (mostly Florida and Arizona). The Dodgers are still Manny-less for now. Fans are now growing impatient with his agent, Scott Boras, and for good reason. I just don't get it. A situation has now been created that doesn't seem like anyone will be happy with when it is all said and done. If he doesn't watch it, Manny may end up making less than the lowest offer from the Dodgers. Boras is the wonderful guy that also negotiated the Andruw Jones deal and we all know how that turned out. Sometimes you just have to compromise.

NCAA College Hoops: Every game counts so much more with March Madness approaching. There are a ton of games today. Check here for live and up-to-the-minute information for women's teams and here for the men.

Today in Sports History

I can't believe baseball spring training has started already. Sometimes time seems to move so slowly, but the sports seasons seem to come and go so quickly!

This Manny S**t is getting beyond crazy. Do Manny and Boras not know we are in some serious economic lows, people are getting fired left and right. and 45 mil is not enough MF get the F out of here- sign or shut up and go away you ungrateful MF. If it was me I would rather come in last place then give Manny a dime now. MF I am not going to beg, sign or step. More money my azz, there are no other deals. I really hope the Dodgers don't cave b/c other teams and agents are watching this. Stand Strong Dodger Blue

Oh and a co worker told me Andruw Jones is 1 for 9 with 8 strike outs in spring training. We got a good laugh out of that.

The local ESPN station was talking about how this has turned into a spitting contest between the McCourts and Boras. In addition, the McCourts have now made everyone feel like they don't have enough money to do anything (they did have to take out a loan to buy the team in the first place and they raise prices on everything with each passing year). The main problem in what they offered Manny was the deferment of money. He (through his agent) wanted it up front. At any rate, three giant (mostly McCourt and Boras) egos that refuse to give in are not helping us at all. The two apparently don't like each other and are letting that get in the way of negotiations. Lame. I am ready to miss Dodgers games completely this year until the team gets sold. (Wow, that was hard to type)
