Wild World of Wednesday - June 3, 2009

Last night was "wild" in some parts of Southern California since we had a "surprise" storm. For those of you that aren't familiar - winter and spring is when we get our little bit of rain and coming starting in June we usually have cloudy skies with nary a drop. You may have heard of this as "June gloom". I'm not sure if it rained outside of my house but something caused me to have some really odd dreams last night. I'll bet it has nothing to do with the massive amounts of spam I've been getting in my email either. None of this has to do with sports so I will move on...

HWC Locales: The Homeless World Cup announced that Rio (2010) and Paris (2011) will be the next sites for the annual event. The organization is looking to Asia for 2012 before taking it to Poznan, Poland in 2013:

"Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is confirmed as the host city for the 2010 Homeless World Cup, the world-class, international football tournament energizing people who are homeless to change their own lives. Copacabana Beach will be the official venue uniting nations from all 5 continents as players stand proud and demonstrate to the world the power of football to change lives in September next year.

Rio will hand over to Paris, France in 2011 with a venue adjacent to the Eiffel Tower while Poznan is a surprise announcement as the winner of the 2013 Homeless World Cup. The international organizers are currently exploring the opportunity to host the 2012 Homeless World Cup in Asia."
