Sunday Sports Wrap - February 15, 2009
Are you tired of the same old thing in sports? Try these on for size today:
The What? "The 15th Annual Weiner National Dachshund Races will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 3 p.m. Dozens of dachshunds will scramble in pursuit of fame and imaginative lures as hundreds of spectators cheer them on. Some of the dogs will have trained for minutes with a team of two handlers each who encourage, cajole and plead with the willful little dogs to focus on the high-stakes race instead of interesting sights, sounds and smells along the route." The event is in Huntington Beach and you can find out more here.
How About A Run? I found nine marathons that are happening today from Jacksonville Beach, FL to Columbus, OH. The Sarasota Grouper Marathon looks awesome. One day, I will train for and complete a marathon. If only I could find a way to retire at an early age...
Surfing! The ASP Grade-3 Billabong Pro Junior Coffs Harbour event is in Australia today. Here in Southern California the waves are flat at best and it is quite chilly. I was in Malibu yesterday and watched a few diehards brave the cold for what looked like ankle-high crud to me.
Today in Sports History

1978 - Leon Spinks beats Muhammad Ali in 15 for heavyweight boxing title

Congrats to the Dodgers for not offering Manny any more money when there are no other offers on the table. Wish more team would do this.
What do you think of the World Baseball Classic?
Weiner dog races? Ha, that sounds great. The dogs probably have a lot of fun, too.
And yes, running a marathon is on my list of things to do as well.
The doggie races are a huge thing all over the country as it turns out. It's pretty silly to put the bun outfits on them!
Yeah...Manny is a sore subject with me...urgh!
Some games for the Classic are going to be played at Chavez Ravine so I might actually go. I'm just not sure yet.
