I'm Happy For Michelle Wie
She has her critics and she has her fans and now Michelle Wie has her first LPGA win.
Bring her name up on certain forums and it's sure to polarize the crowd. Honestly, I've seen more bashing of this young player than anything else. Sure, there have been interesting choices made in her career but I just don't get why there is such animosity toward her. I mean really, she's just a young woman that plays golf. How is that so threatening? I can only imagine how she feels about everything that is said about her. Hopefully she just lets it roll off her.
This year is shaping up great for her though. First the Solheim Cup and now her win over the weekend! Congratulations Michelle! Here's to many more!
How do you feel about Michelle Wie?

I think the threat is that Michelle Wie won't "stay where she belongs." If Michelle were to prove she can compete with the men, where does that leave the poor guys who can't keep their tour cards now? (Let along the weekend players who can't even hit a fairway!) And I think there are some women who feel threatened by what they consider an "aggressive female."
Personally, I'd love to see Michelle have success on both tours. I'm a huge fan, simply because she has endured so much animosity. I think she's proven she's as mentally tough as any player (male or female) who's ever played the game; there are great players who have been crushed by less adversity than she's faced. I respect her a lot!
Yes, there are many who crumbled under much less pressure!
I do not get it either. She is a young girl. She was firing 66's at age 13 and Nike paid her a bundle. Many people did NOT like that. (the same ones didn't like when Phil Knight did for Tiger).
No top caliber golfer is without ego. I imagine she and her parents felt she could compete on the men's tour. Big mistake. A rules controversy, a mysterious W/D and some nagging injuries and she is persona non grata with the world.
I think she knows she has all the competition she can handle right where she is and will not venture to the 'dark side' again. I think the girls are warming up to her also. It has to be tough for them because Michelle makes so much money and just won her first tourney. Not her fault.
Yeah, she's only - what - like 20?
I am glad she got that first win. I think there will be many many more. I really think that if her parents had stayed out of her life a little more she would have won a couple of years ago. Congrats Michelle.
I think there will be many more also!
