Wild World of Wednesday - January 21, 2008



Politics: For the first time in my memory, the sports world came to a halt to watch the Presidential Inauguration. ESPN even covered the event and still has a story on the front page. This is the sort of world I recall my grandparents telling me about - where everyone cared about the world around them and got involved. Let's do more of that.

Super Bowl: We all know how wild it is that the Arizona Cardinals are in the Super Bowl. I'll not go over that again and just point you to the Super Bowl website for all of the facts, stories, and info that you could possibly want.

Cycling: Lance returns. Really, just check out the eerie pic on ESPN. I'm excited to see Lance Armstrong return but frightened by the image they chose to use. I get that they are trying for the whole Star Wars thing but it looks quite odd.

I was at Buffalo Wild Wings last night, and I was amazed that out of all 20 or so TVs, they were all on sports channels as usual, covering various games. Not one had news on or inauguration coverage. It was actually nice to get a break from all the coverage.

Yeah, I didn't watch the party coverage last night. I'd rather be at a celebration rather than watch it, right?

Everytime I watch Jeremy Schaap I am reminded of how much I really like him. He is one of the few people of ESPN, I still look forward to seeing. I always thought Lance took something. If he wins the Tour de France again thats another sign of the sports apocalypse. I never thought it was fair that the press got on Bonds for juicing, and left Lance alone. I always felt the press left Armstrong alone because he was winning for America on the world stage and he's nice to the press. I just never understood how Armstrong has won the Tour de France 7 times beating cyclist a lot younger then he his, yet the American press hardly ever questioned him about using anything to enchance his performance. I know Armstrong never failed a drug test but neither did Bonds.

I once watched a documentary about exceptional athletes and they explained what they claim is Lance's edge. Apparently he has his genes have coded in a particular way that he uses oxygen more efficiently than most people do. Whether that is true or not?

Yeah, Barry Bonds is not portrayed as a nice man and Lance is.
