Sunday Sports Wrap - January 18, 2009

NFL: Yeah, it is THAT weekend. The one you have waited for to find out who will be in the Super Bowl. It's halftime and I'm watching the game at home as any other sport fan would - stuffing my face and drinking and adult beverage. Larry Fitzgerald has been on fire for the Cardinals in the first half. The state of Arizona must be more than elated. Later today it the Steelers vs. Ravens. That will be a great game to watch for sure.

Oh, and you want to know how busy I have been? It took me until recently to realize that I will be IN Tampa for Super Bowl weekend. I'm in Orlando earlier in the week and was so busy planning that golf-related trip that I didn't realize it was Super Bowl weekend. I have said before that I have sports ADD, now do you believe me?

Side note: I totally saw the Gruden firing coming for weeks! Where were you?

Speaking of football
: Don't forget that Women's Football Talk radio is on every Sunday at 3:00pm PST. I am please and honored to announce that they have asked me to be a guest host next week on the 25th! I'm quite excited about it. The season is coming very soon!

Today in Sports History

1951 - The NFL takes control of the failing Baltimore Colts

1973 - Orlando Cepeda signs with the Boston Red Sox, making him the first player signed by a team specifically to be a designated hitter.

I saw the Arizona victory, but the releasing of Gruden was quite the shock.

Well, Gruden has been a great coach but I believe he got to the point where he would outsmart himself and over-think everything. It's too bad and I think they moved too quickly on a replacement. I would have liked to see Mike Shanahan in Tampa. Gruden will land somewhere - San Francisco or San Diego would be nice. A colleague of mine pointed out how the Lions moved too fast on their new choices.

I didn't totally see the AZ thing but sure wished for it! Ha!

Well the first playoff game was good. The best part in the Ravens/ Steelers game was when both coaches wanted to throw the yellow flag on the same play. Classic.
Steelers/Cardinals- Did you know Brad Pitt is a Steelers fan (whenever a celeb claims their team I remember)Though I wonder if Angelina Jolie lets him watch football still. She seems like the type to say no lets do something together. My coworker said Jolie wouldn't care if Brad watched football. What do you think? And the female M.E. on Law Order SVU is also a Steelers fan. The lead male detective on that show is a Redskins fan. Just thought I'd share all this useless information.

Ha! Thanks for the fun facts - I love that stuff! Hmm...I know Brad Pitt is originally from the South so I wonder why he's a Steelers fan? College or something? I'm not enough of a star follower to know.

I do know that Jack Nicholson and Dyan Cannon are Lakers fans! I guess you don't need to be in L.A. to know that though!

The Lakers have a lot of celeb fans. What about the Clippers? I like when celebs claim their teams in the lean years. I wonder if Bush will become a baseball owner again. The only time I thought Bush was ever sure of himself was when he was talking baseball.

Yeah, Billy Crystal is a Clippers fan - allegedly.

Good point...I'm sure he'll just sit back and count all of his $ somewhere and find something to invest in, eh?

I could see Crystal being a Clippers fans- He's a Mets fan not Yankees and he doesn't seem like the type to lie about his team. I once heard he helped Jackie Robinson cross the street. Robinson was older and he couldn't see well. He had no idea who Billy Crystal was, he just needed help. But of course Crystal knew who he was. Crystal told this story on Jackie Robinson day while sitting in ESPN booth once.
