Wild World of Wednesday – Fantasy Football Edition

Yeah, if you haven’t done your draft by now you should hurry up! Sure, you can start late – but what fun is that? I tried very hard to only be in ONE this year and that didn’t work. At least I have a secret weapon/confidant to bounce stuff off of…bwahaha…

Oh, and I realize that I've rambled on a few times about FF...it is that time of year so get used to it!

Pay The Fan: As I mentioned before, I’m trying out one Fantasy site called Pay The Fan. I think I’ve got it down now – you pick different players every week…I think. I got to pick whomever I wanted. Yeah, so that means there are probably a bunch of teams out there that have Tom Brady, Terrell Owens, and LaDainian Tomlinson. It looks like I can add and drop every week at will. I’ll let you know how it works out. One thing I really like is the extensive stats and information it has on the site.

Yahoo! Fantasy Football: I’m doing the Fantasy Football PLUS and the regular edition of FF on this site. The second one is a joint effort that a colleague asked me to help with. Interestingly, he is one of my opponents in the other Yahoo! league. The things I like most about this site is that you can tweak your lineup to look at projected points versus your opponent. Of course, you need that bit of finesse to know the obvious cases of who will not live up to their numbers last year and who will blow away their projections.

Each of the Yahoo! leagues had a different draft method. The PLUS was done as an autodraft and the regular edition was live. I have not been involved in a live draft for many years and I must say that I don’t miss it. I definitely prefer the online and/or autodraft where you aren’t sitting in a room together. I like to keep all my draft secrets to myself without prying eyes.

Pick ‘Ems: I’m doing two pick ‘ems – the ESPN version that I do with my brothers every year and Cuzoogle’s. I know the competitors in the latter are underestimating me. Good.

My Fantasy Football Tips: Well, I’ll give you a few things…I went against my mantra of not picking a QB first in one of my FF leagues. I picked Tony Romo since I was in the middle of the pack of 12 as far as pick order. The first few had taken all of the good RBs so I tried this strategy. The RB field seems really deep this year, so I wasn’t too worried. I didn’t pick Tom Brady as my QB for a few reasons – one being how thin he looks lately and another with his recent “injury” and the murky explanations about it. I just have a feeling that this will not be his year. Oh, and I don’t think the Bears D will perform up to expectations either. There is too much unrest and other shenanigans. In addition, their offense is not that great so they’ll likely be on the field for long periods of time. Another two I’m staying away from – Ricky Williams and Jeremy Shockey. I just can’t believe that Ricky is going to keep it together all season. He’s burned us before, so I just wouldn’t risk it. I just heard he's taking classes so that he can be a doctor the next time he retires. This does not sound like a dedicated player to me. If for some reason he does get it together he’ll be a point-generating machine but I’m not gonna risk it. As for Shockey – his attitude and injuries make me think he’ll not last the whole year either. He’s also not worth the risk for me. You know who I like? Justin Fargas for one. He’s quietly turned up the volume with each passing year. I’ll keep the rest to myself…I can’t give my whole strategy away!

Who do you like this year for Fantasy Football?

Dr. Ricky Williams? Ya think?

I will probably give in to the temptation of fantasy football once again this year. The problem is that i get so involved that I root for my players and not for the teams.

My father, the purist, threatens to disown me.

I have the same issue with rooting and my father!

Thanks for stopping by!
