Sunday Sports Wrap - July 6. 2008

Tennis: As I write this I’m watching the final Wimbledon match between Nadal and Federer. Nadal has the upper hand but you can’t count Federer out just yet. John McEnroe commented that it will come down to who “is hungrier”. No kidding. Right now Nadal is playing like he wants it more. Roger Federer has come back from two down before though…

Golf: For women it’s the second annual P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship finishing today. Angela Park is ahead at this stage. Speaking of women’s golf, Lorena Ochoa said that she would “not say no” to playing against men. In men’s golf today Tom Pernice leads the AT&T National for now.

Baseball: The roster for the All-Star Game will be announced this afternoon. There’s a selection show and everything. I just have to also point out that the Rays are four games ahead of Boston as of now. They’re also nine games ahead of New York. The Dodgers still stink as does the entire NL West. There are plenty of games to watch today including the Dodgers at the Giants and the Royals visiting the Devil Rays.

Basketball: The Los Angeles Sparks host Phoenix today. Los Angeles is just a ½ game behind San Antonio at this point. Men’s basketball has quite a bit going on with the upcoming Olympics, talks of trades, contract negotiations, and summer leagues.

Today in Sports History:

Wimbledon:
1974 - Jimmy Connors defeats Ken Rosewall
1979 - Martina Navratilova defeats Chris Evert
1991 - Steffi Graf defeats Gabriela Sabatini
1996 - Steffi Graf defeats Arantxa S Vicaro
1997 - Pete Sampras defeats Cedric Pioline

Baseball:
1933 - The first MLB All-Star Game is played at Comiskey Park in Chicago.

I was going to ask you if you were watching the final. Since 6 am I was up to get it over with. That rain delay is making me mad. 11am and it's still not over. I'm surprised Nadal couldn't finish it. Federer wants it more, what a way to come back!

Hi Apryl,
I was looking at the sidebar, "Sports movies I like." I liked "Rudy" too. Did you see "Bend it like Beckham" Or you didn't like it?

Nadal won Wimbledon. He must be in heaven!

Have a great week!

Hey Monica - you know, I did like "Bend it Like Beckham" and a few other vintage flicks that I need to add like "Semi Tough".

Nadal is so happy he was going to eat the trophy!
