Sunday Sports Wrap - March 9, 2008

Another Sunday is upon us which means another post about what goes on in sports when there is no NFL to watch. You must believe me when I say there is plenty to watch today! Broaden your horizons!

First of all, there are more NCAA college hoops games on today that I could possibly cover. You can click here for the men’s and here for the women’s schedule.

In golf, the PODS Championship wraps up today. Stewart Cink is atop the leaderboard for now.

A plethora of MLB spring training games are happening in the warmer areas of the country. The Chicago Cubs vs. the Kansas City Royals game will be televised on WGN. Speaking of baseball - now might be a good time to start thinking about what you are going to do about Fantasy Baseball this year.

Premier League soccer has Wigan vs. Arsenal among the scheduled matches of the day. Arsenal could use some points to remain first in the rankings since Man U is hot on their heels. A couple of good Serie A match ups to pay attention to are Napoli vs. Roma and Genoa vs. Juventus. Inter Milan has a commanding lead for first place within the Serie A league.

In Tennis, the women have continuing WTA Banglore Open action. Serena bested sister Venus to advance to the final match against Patty Schnyder. The men are in Las Vegas for the Tennis Channel Open this weekend. South African Kevin Anderson reached his first ATP final and will face American Sam Querry.

Today in sports history:

1979 - The 5th Commissioner of Baseball, Bowie Kuhn, orders that the sport give female reporters equal access

1995 – Baseball awards a franchise to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Punched Before Eating?
Oh, and by the way, for you astute readers – I am totally in on the fact that today’s video really has nothing much to do with sports. I figured I hadn’t done enough boxing coverage so this is to make up for that!
